End of Suburbia

This is a 52 minute portion of the movie. I highly recommend sitting down and watching this!

An excellent video. Dolores Hayden's book "Building Suburbia" was very good explaining how suburbanization began - which was basically the first half of the video.

The End of Suburbia movie is sobering. It is so easy to go to sleep and never see what is happening around us. I have struggled with this for a long time.

I've slowly begun to unravel my own life and seek a more simple path. For me the first step has been to unchain myself from complete dependence on my guzzling Ford Ranger truck in favor of my 72MPG Vespa scooter. Still oil based but decidely more efficient. The unexpected benefit is that riding focuses attention to stay healthy on the road and it has spilled over into other aspects of my life and has me questioning a whole array of consumptive practices based on desire coming from who knows where....

In my own blog Scooter in the Sticks I posted what I have learned from my first 100 posts---Lessons from 100 Posts. It touches on some of this and I made a video that reflected some of the gifts of consumption.

I am going to look carefully at your blog because it seems to fit in well with my own journey.

thanks,

steve
